Religion and Academia: Gaps in the Conversation

We speak to Dr Mahshid Turner, the first Muslim female chaplain, as well as a freelance researcher and lecturer in Muslim theology, about her published journal article: “Can the Effects of Religion and Spirituality on Both Physical and Mental Health be Scientifically Measured?”

The discussion explores gaps between academia and certain aspects of religion, and examines why some dimensions of belief remain difficult to quantify. It also considers whether the scientific need for measurement can fully account for the role of faith, or whether religion ultimately extends beyond what can be empirically proven.
